Any words of encouragement from fellow NICU parents?

I had my baby on the 11th and we have been admitted to the NICU ever since. Hopefully going home tomorrow 🤞🏻 Baby was born with a small brain bleed, which caused him to have some breathing issues after he was born. We are going home with an apnea monitor and up until tonight I was so excited to get out of here, but now that it is approaching I am scared shirtless, for lack of better words. I just want my baby to be okay 😰

My son was a 30 weeker and in the NICU for 6 weeks. I completely understand what you’re talking about. I was SOOO excited until they said it was time to go. It was weird too because walking out was such a bitter sweet moment. Not gonna lie, when you go home you won’t sleep because you’ll constantly be checking on the baby since there are no more monitors but soon you’ll fall into your routine and you’ll not worry as much. Being a NICU parent definitely changes you but it makes you very alert. Everything will be ok though. Congrats on your upcoming NICU graduation!

My daughter was born premature and had issues with her oxygen levels while in the NICU.  We were terrified at first to bring her home and not have the monitors to keep track of her oxygen levels. It felt so nerve wracking to leave after having that extra sense of security, but as the other comment said once you are home and get into a routine you will feel fine! The first week or so we couldn’t sleep and were so worried something would happen but she was completely fine and slowly we got more used to it. Now she’s almost 7 weeks old and I don’t worry about it at all anymore because everything’s been fine. Good luck!
