UPDATE 37+5 weeks and baby girl is coming today!

Justine • 🍀 1-6-16 🐣 2-2-18 🌷2-23-2020

Had an appointment Friday at the OB (37+3) and was measuring big (41 weeks), discussed with NP about inducing at 39 weeks to avoid baby getting too big (she was measuring 98% at 36 weeks) and becoming a shoulder dystocia. NP offered to sweep my membranes when she checked me, I was 3.5cm 50%. I was hesitant at first because I didn’t want to force her to come before she’s ready but I agreed and she swept me twice. Immediately started cramping and shaking it hurt so bad. Had lots of pressure and discomfort the rest of the day (I walked a lot after). Had “bloody show” and mucus throughout the night and some contractions but nothing timetable. Same with Saturday. By Saturday afternoon I was discouraged and thought it wasn’t going to happen, things felt like they’d calmed down. We went out to dinner and walked around the park.

Around 930pm they started up and had lots of pressure in my butt and cramps that wrapped around to my lower back. Started timing them 2-3 min apart at first then they became inconsistent and spaced out a little. Thought I just needed to stop timing them and if they felt like they were getting worse I would know. Tried going to bed around 12. Woke up to my husband moving around and checked the clock and realized I’d been breathing hard through contractions for what felt like hours but had only been 30 min. Decided to go to L&D to be on the safe side since I’m GBS positive and didn’t want to wait too long. Got here and they said I was 5cm 60% effaced at -1 station. They monitored me for a couple hours, re-checked me and said I was 5-6cm 80% effaced. Since I need antibiotics they decided to keep me and I’ll be getting to meet our baby girl today!

Sorry for the long post!

****Update:

Once I was adequately treated for GBS doctor came in and broke my waters around 1145am (I had really spaced out in my contractions). It didn’t seem like much was happening at first but then I got a really strong and long contraction out of nowhere that took my breath away and had me tearing up. Had the nurse check me at about 130pm and she said I was 6cm. Contractions were coming strong and fierce and I said “if I’m only 6cm and feeling this way then I want an epidural”. Well, I never got one because with every contraction I felt like She was coming down and was involuntarily pushing. She broke out into this world at 1:48pm, the nurse had to catch her since no one else was in the room and I had to push past a slight shoulder dystocia. But she and I are healthy and doing well.
