Tips on weaning slowly?

My goal for breastfeeding was 1 year and I'm less than a week away from that. I'm so happy and proud of myself and absolutely love this journey with my little man.

However, I'm hoping he slowly weans himself to make the process smooth but I might want to start to slowly wean him as well. My hormones are so shot from nursing, I can feel it. My energy levels are so up and down and I've heard most women feel SO much better once they stop nursing. I just feel like I need a break and that my body needs one too. But I'm so sad that our journey might be over soon. It's so bittersweet.

Any tips of the weaning process? How do I do it slowly? I want to avoid mastitis or a clogged duct.
