Do you stand behind our US troops? Or in front of them?

It is way more complicated than this. I am not REQUIRED to support an organization that brushed rapes under the rug, that tortured and humiliated prisoners, and that just bombed a hospital run by Doctors Without Borders.

I couldn't vote. I don't feel like either option represents my feelings.

I support individuals in the armed forces. I support the dedication, sincerity, and honor that drives many to enlist. I'll take a second right now to sincerely thank them for their service. I also really really support better veterans benefits. Including service being a direct path to citizenship.

Now what I don't support is blind patriotism. I don't always support the guiding hands behind our troops, and I don't support those individuals that do terrible things in the name of America. The reasoning for the war in Iraq, and the actions of absolutely everyone at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo bay spring immediately to mind. I do not in any way support that. If that means a few people feel like I stand, "in front" of our troops so be it.

It is not as black and white as the poll answers make it out to be.

I respect those in the military. I do not support them being sent off to fight needless wars often fueled by someone's personal agenda. I do not support them dying for their country when it wasn't necessary. I grieve for them.

I support the individuals, I don't support some of their actions. I don't support the ridiculous budget. I don't support the fact that they bombed a Doctors Without Borders hospital. I don't support a lot about them. But I do support the individuals who think they're doing the right thing for them.

I support our troops but not the wars they're sent to fight. And I believe more should be done to care for our troops when they come home. Lots of vets end up homeless and many injured vets are left without adequate or affordable care. And not one of our vets has access to good mental healthcare through the VA. They deserve better. We owe them better.

I have respect for the families that give up a lot for their service men and women. I respect the individuals involved for taking on a challenging and dangerous role.

That being said, it's a job, and these individuals made the choice to enlist.  I respect their decision, and I sincerely wished that our country honored the difficulty of that decision by having better support for our veterans. At the end of the day though, it's a job.

I don't like this idea of blind patriotism or hero worship for our military. I don't think it's healthy.

Any country which has experienced war on their land does not wear a badge of honor for the destruction it inflicts. On the one hand I wish no one other country to go through it, on another hand, I hope all countries could experience it so they wouldn't be proud of something so destructive. Imagine Sep 11th all day every day for years, would you stand behind or in front of that?

I'll always stand behind our military and my husband, a majority are good people and I won't allow the actions of a few dictate how I feel about them as a whole, they don't choose where they're sent they just go and follow orders, to protect and serve 💚
