why is this a sin?

so i had to go to confession cuz ya know catholic school. we get a list of sins to help us and one says birth control. i go up and say “i’m not taking birth control rn but i’m taking it in less than a month” and the priest got mad and ranted abt how it was a sin. i told him it’s for medical reasons and not sex. apparently THATS STILL A SIN
WTF??? WHY IS THAT A SIN??? like if u think abt it God is making my body be this weird and painful and irregular so i have to fix it so like why is it a sin that i’m fixing it?
and today my mom goes “just so u know taking bc is a sin” and i’m like yea i know and she goes “ok just making sure u know that hun”
like she believes it yet agreed to get for me since i’m 17 and can’t get it on my own and need it. wtf???

Because in the catholic religion (from what I understand), you’re not supposed to prevent any of “god’s children” from being born.. and birth control does exactly that. 
Also, it implies you’ll be having premarital sex, which is a big no no in religion.
I don’t agree with anything above, but that’s why it’s a “sin”

Because Catholicism is an incredibly legalistic religion with the majority of the tradition and rules created by flawed humans in order to control everyone else. At your age I got together with several friends and we attended multiple churches, we started at the churches we grew up in and went to service with various other friends, it was incredibly enlightening to see how different religions and denominations worship and believe.  Personally I found that the answers were written in red, if Jesus didn't say it question it, and if it's not in the bible at all why are we following it. The older generations like to make rules in order to prevent the younger from stumbling over the same stones but its futile as long as we inhabit our humanity people will find things to fall on so we should really just learn/teach that When we fall to fall at His feet. In the end it is all between you and the Lord and what your relationship with him is like. He gave us Drs to invent medication and if it's not a sin to take an aspirin it's not a sin to take hormones or SSRIs or any other drug that allows you to function properly in society.  My prayer for you this day is that you are provided with a person who you can sit with and study what the Bible really says about life, living, and what were here for.

Yeah this is why I'm a cherry picker catholic. It's a sin bc they dont believe in preventing pregnancy but you do what you need to do. This may be your religion picked for you but it may not be the religion for you if you know what I mean. Cathlocismn is very strict and imo judgy which is why I'm no longer a practicing catholic. Sorry for the long rant. But yes in short it's considered sin for preventing God's blessing of children. But hey people still get pregnant on bc so if He really wants someone to have a baby He can still intervene is my thought. 🤷‍♀️

This is what’s wrong with religion. Most of the rules are just to control. Women are so objectified. Also, birth control wasn’t a thing when the Bible was written so the church then decided that birth control is a sin. Why? To control women.

Yeah i never thought about it, but to catholics birth control (anything that blocks the seed or prevents pregnancy) is a sin. I wonder if that means not having sex is a sin 🙃 im just kidding that's really not funny. This line of thinking is really dangerous and destructive imo, and what it's based on in the bible isn't even relavent to modern Christians/Catholics at all. 
But I guess its not up to me, since Catholics just have their own rules the church decides, rather than interpretating the bible themselves? Seems that way. I come from Baptist to non-religious now. I kind of believe in God, and I'm just interested in religion. 
I don't think birth control counts as a sin if it's a medical need & you are not having sex- within your religion. 
Without your religion, I can't imagine God would be mad about it. 
Birth control pills didn't even exist when that part of the bible was written, and it was relevant to the Israelites increasing their numbers, not to any modern culture.

You should inform the priest the Vatican doesnt consider medications that adversely affect fertility or cause miscarriage to be sinful if that is not the intended use. 
For example, if you need to take drugs and the side effect or alternative use prevents conception or causes pregnancy loss and there isnt an alternative, it's not sinful.

Like others said Catholics believe preventing pregnancy is a sin. Not sure why using BC for medical reasons would be though. 
But I'm Lutheran and we don't believe birthcontrol is a sin. I'd ask your priest to point you to specific scripture that says it's not right. I'm not aware of any saying it's wrong to prevent pregnancy. We should always look back to the Bible and God word for our answers.

So, I am currently converting to Catholicism and am in RCIA classes. We talked in-depth about this, and sins in general.
You don’t have to agree with everything the church says. It takes years for the church to “catch up”, if they do. You just need to conduct your own examination of conscience and decide if what you are doing is out of good intention and love and if you respect what the church says, but still disagree. If you can sit down and truly think hard about it and you have considered all options and all perspectives and still feel that being on birth control is the right decision, then that above all else is what matters.

I’m not catholic but I’m Christian. I personally feel like some of these “rules” were made and written for a different time.. we all know right from wrong, and I highly doubt birth control is the evilest thing you can do.
