What is your career or profession and why did you choose the one you did?

I’m a critical care paramedic. I started volunteering in a fire department for hours to get scholarships for law school. Fell in love with the adrenaline. I ended up being really good at it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Dental hygienist. I enjoy the work but I love the flexibility in my hours. I work mon-wed 730-4. It allows me to go to the gym after work and still have my evenings with my family. The pay is good and I enjoy getting to know the patients and helping people

Optometrist, always been fascinated by diseases, eyes, and glasses. I also love working in a store, sell things. So it was the perfect combination. It's also well paid, and with lost of possibilities to study more. 
The only con for me, especially after having kids, is the working hours. It's typically from 10am-6pm, because our store us located in a shopping mall. And when daycare/kindergarten closes at 4:30pm I have to have someone else pick up the little ones.

I’m a high school teacher. 
I love the students and the actual TEACHING. Every day is different, and I have the opportunity to influence students regularly, which is a privilege. I love the challenge of figuring out what makes each student tick and how I can best help them learn.

I am a stenographer, AKA court reporter!
I had always been a fast typist on a regular keyboard, and ever since I was young I was intrigued with the law, lawsuits, crime, et cetera.  So court reporting is literally the perfect job for me.  It’s very stressful, schooling was tough, but damn... I LOVE what I do!  I am so blessed to have found something I love as a career.  😊

I'm in medical school, 4th year. I never know how to answer this question 
I think I chose it because I enjoy sleeping 4 hours a night and I must absolutely hate self care time. I'm pretty sure I also despise mental wellness, the more anxious the better.
Jokes aside, I enjoy studying physiological pathways and pathology, but that isnt enough. I like logical thinking, investigation and I really appreciate how broad the field is. I can go to research, I can work as a surgeon, or choose one of the dozens of specialties, and inside each of one I can work in different levels of complexity. I can work in administration if I want, I can be a professor. I am also challenge driven, medicine was competitive so here I am. Besides it I enjoy working with people, and I enjoy team work. 
I would be lying if stability wasn't one factor, but it isn't the most important for me, and I am aware that financial compensation won't come soon.
There are so many things to take into consideration before choosing a field that I dont blame people if they decide they need a gap year to decide. It's a life time decision.

I am the unit coordinator/secretary/do-all person in an emergency room in a level one trauma center. 
Started as just a job, but now I thrive in chaos.
I could never do an office job, I would lose my mind
I love helping people, no matter the social class.
The high and lows and the craziness I deal with on a daily basis.

I regulate air quality for the state if South Dakota. I was graduating soon with a degree in chemical engineering and hadn't found a job yet. I applied for the government job and got it. It wasn't exactly what I had first planned but it was a great decision. My work life balance is great and the benefits of government work are pretty sweet. I inspect a lot of places I applied for and I am glad I didn't go that route.
