Having a toddler and newborn ?

Did you try explaining to your toddler about the new baby or is it too early to understand ? My son will be 3 in August and I just found out we are having baby #2

I would talk, talk and talk some more. Toddlers can understand more than they get credit for! I’d maybe wait until second trimester, but never to early to start explaining the changes that will be happening in his life.

My daughter was 2 yrs and 9 months when my son was born. We talked about it a lot before he was born. We talked about what it means to be a big sister (we read lots of books too). We also talked about what newborns are like. They cry and eat a lot, they can’t talk or play yet, etc.

We talked about it every day but I don’t know that he grasped any of it, by the end I swear he was looking at me like “yeah you’ve been saying this baby is coming for 8 months now I’ll believe it when I see it.” I think what really helped him was the new baby that started at daycare the month before I was due.

My son is two years old and im wondering the same thing. I told him hes a big brother which I know he has no idea what that means. I have a new niece born three weeks ago and I explained to him about her that shes a tiny baby and I told him do you want a tiny baby like a brother or sister? He stays thinking and says no lol And then finally last occasion I told him mommy has a baby in her belly inside her belly and showed him a onesie I bought and told him its for the baby in my belly and  I think hes starting to understand but still doesnt get how theres a baby. So im waiting more time until my belly grows im about 8-9 weeks i find out on friday. But im also confused as to how to tell him and wondering if they kind of know by the time the baby gets here? Or will it be a big surprise? This is my second child kind of wondering the same as you

My son will be 3 in August as well and I am delivering my second Wednesday and my son has been great through tour my pregnancy. He is very gentle with my belly and will point to it and ask me if elfie (his nickname he gave sister) is okay. He asks if I’m okay and he says he wants elfie to come home. 
Just talk about the baby and when you talk about the baby point to your belly so the connection can be made that baby is in mommas belly so we gotta be careful

My daughter will be 2.5 when her baby sister is born this June. I tell her to be careful with my belly and climbing on me because of “Baby Sister”. We talk about her a lot. My daughter will point to my belly and kiss it when we ask her about Baby Sister (haven’t decided on a name yet). I don’t think she fully “gets it”, but she knows things are changing.
