Why induction?

Why are so many people wanting to be induced? I’m hoping to make it as close to the due date (April 10) as long as baby wants to stay in. I don’t have any plans to try to encourage him to come any sooner.

My OB is not so concerned about the virus but more so the hospital not allowing a support person in during delivery. He still wont induce before 39 weeks though. But is telling his pts he supports 39 week inductions at this time if thats what his pts want.

With all this Coronavirus scariness, I want my girl to stay in there as long as possible- I know a week or two isn’t going to make a huge difference with the virus but I feel she’s safer inside!

Everyone is going to have their own thoughts and opinions on this. I can understand both sides, as I’ve felt both the urge to just have my baby come out and wanting her to stay in for as long as possible. For those who want to be induced because of the virus (which is the majority of what’s being talked about right now), the logic is to get into the hospitals before they are completely overrun (should that happen). We aren’t sure how long this virus is going to continue going uphill on its curve and so it’s impossible to know when the hospitals will be struggling. There’s also the fact that some hospitals are taking away visitation and in some extreme cases aren’t even allowing any support. I guess my rambling point is that people are scared. They’re scared to wait any longer than they have to in case things get worse. I am being induced sometime between 39 weeks and my due date for medical reasons (if she doesn’t come on her own before then), but even I have thought about wanting baby to come ASAP out of fear of the unknown. Like I said, everyone will have their thoughts and opinions - but the great thing about this app is the support we are able to offer each other. Pregnancy is hard enough, pregnancy during this health crisis is even harder. Hope you have a healthy rest of your pregnancy and delivery!

I am not, but I really hope she comes sooner than later (due 4/22) as my hospital told me that if I test positive they will keep my baby from me for 14 days. To me that is terrifying and everyday I have a greater chance of catching it. To me that is much scarier than not having a support person with me. I can’t even imagine my brand new baby being taken away fro two weeks. I cannot fathom.

I'm not being induced, I have a c section scheduled at 41+2 if I make it that far but hoping for a Vbac and my induction was horrid my last pregnancy. I wont be doing that again, if baby needs to come earlier for a medical reason then its a c section.

I'm being induced at 39 weeks due to being a type-1 diabetic. Which is wonderful because originally they were telling me 37-38 weeks is as far as of carry.

I have been asked to “consider” induction at 39/40w due to this being an ivf pregnancy. I’m unsure what to do tbh 🙈

If it weren’t for this crazy virus I wouldn’t consider it. As is I’m hoping to have a discussion with my OB because my husband has vacation time booked around 38 weeks that goes until I’d be 40+3. After  that he would HAVE to return to work unless she’s been delivered in which case he’s allowed to go on parental leave for 5 weeks.
I am hoping that OB will consider induction on my due date, if babe hasn’t made an appearance by then, so that my husband can avoid any potential exposure to the virus at work.

I’m not being induced until 39 weeks which happens the week of april 10th. I have gestational diabetes and my baby boy is already getting a bit to big for my high risk doctor.
