I’ve gone by myself and found it very helpful. I’ve asked my partner multiple times - we live together already, but I think it would be very helpful preparing for marriage. He thinks you go to therapy bc you have issues and I think his pride gets in the way of going. But honestly, I think it’s healthy for all partners to go - kind of a maintenance thing for your relationship, like changing the oil in your car.

I have been to tons of individual and couples therapy. We are currently going as we prep for baby. One of the lessons is that when having a disagreement, seek to understand and restate your partners perspective before anything else. Second lesson is to take a break for at least 30 min from a disagreement if you feel your heart start racing and adrenaline pumping

My husband and I went to a therapist together once. I’d been seeing her myself for a while and he came with me to a session. We were having trouble communicating after we got the news that our daughter had special needs. It was a really tough time for both of us and we just couldn’t get on the same page. Even just one session was super helpful. We were able to realize how much each of us was hurting in our own ways and better understand how to communicate. Things aren’t always perfect now but they’re a million times better than they were at that time and I’m glad we went. I think we would’ve been ok eventually without therapy but this sped up the process and prevented a lot of hurt feelings.

I’ve asked him and he said as long as we could afford it. We haven’t been to one because of his work schedule and this damn virus.

Not currently, but I have. It’s a great way to learn communication strategies that fit your lives and approaches.
