Appendicitis?

Question

Wanted to know some personal stories of appendicitis. How bad it is and how long did it hurt?? How did you know it was your appendix?

My dad had one when I was younger. His actually ruptured and we are lucky he didn’t die from it. He thought he had food poisoning at first then after a few days when it didn’t go away thought he had a bad flu. Then a few more days my mom made him go to the dr where he had bloodwork and other tests done. He got home and there was a message on the answering machine with the dr telling him to go to the ER right away. He was in the hospital for like a month because of it. Even the drs said they didn’t know how he lived through that because it had been ruptured for awhile and there was so much toxins in his body because of it.

I had it when I was 17 (I’m 42 now), @ 1st it just felt like stomach flu, there was stomach cramps & nausea & diarrhea, I have Crohn’s disease (diagnosed @ age 16) so I also thought maybe it was the Crohn’s flaring again, I felt like that for maybe 3 or 4 days & then suddenly the stomach cramps got way worse & became more localized to my right side, I started vomiting & then I was basically doubled over in pain unable to straighten up & pleading w/ my parents to take me to the ER because I was certain it was not the Crohn’s, I basically felt like I was being torn in half 
I got to the ER & they immediately got me into a wheelchair & put me in a room, all the while I’m crying, moaning & vomiting, it took them forever to get an IV in because I was dehydrated, they drew blood & then insisted that I stand up straight & hold still so they could take an X-ray (this was 1995 so I’m guessing they would do different diagnostics now) which totally sucked but only took a couple of minutes. 
They could tell from the X-ray that it was most likely my appendix so they got me on a gurney & whisked me away for surgery, they gave me a bunch of morphine for the pain which was great & I actually kind of passed out before they could even give me the stuff to put me under fully for the surgery. They were able to do it laparoscopically which meant 4 tiny incisions instead of 1 big one. The report from the surgeon said that the appendix was gangrenous but had not fully burst so that was good. I stayed in the hospital for 2 days & then went home. Now that I’m older & have lots of things to compare it to I would say the pain was just slightly worse than childbirth so definitely the worst pain I’ve ever experienced!

I had appendicitis in 2018. During the night I had pain on my side towards the back. By the morning it had moved to the front. I originally wrote it off as period cramps but texted my dad anyway. He’s an EMT and I always go to him about anything health wise. My step-mom is actually who answered and told me to go to the hospital immediately because it could be appendicitis.
I’ll be honest the pain was pretty bad at that point, but my pain threshold is pretty high so I was managing. Plus my boyfriend spent the entire time making me laugh and smile. The nurse even came in and said there’s no way it’s appendicitis because I was laughing and I couldn’t possibly laugh so much while having it. Meanwhile my boyfriends behind her making the DUMBEST faces. Anyway, results came back and it was appendicitis. Thankfully we caught it pretty early. I had surgery later on that day and spent 1 night in the hospital. Honestly the post-op pain was worse than the actual appendicitis. But again, I caught it really early. The next day I couldn’t do anything on my own really. My boyfriend had to pick me up off the bed to use the bathroom, and he helped me get dressed. I was out of work for 2 weeks.
