Should my mom visit?

Julie

I’m due in 3 weeks. The virus is hitting hard in the state where my mom lives. She still wants to come to us to help with the new baby, which would require a long flight across the US with 1 layover. She would quarantine herself in an Airbnb in our city for 2 weeks before staying with us. I’m worried tho... like what if she gets it (she’s 60+ and otherwise healthy), who would take care of her? Or what if someone with the virus stayed in the Airbnb before her and it’s still there? I’m looking for opinions from anyone, especially health professionals, on what to do. My pregnancy is uncomplicated and I have a 2 year old son (with a high maintenance personality) and my husband is working from home. We have been at home now for two weeks and plan to stay that way for a while. My in-laws were going to come and help in May, but they have underlying health conditions and I doubt we’ll see them at all until a vaccine comes out. My dad is also going to delay his visit by a long shot. It breaks my heart that I might have to do this alone (well I have hubby at least) and that no one will be able to meet the baby or see my son. It was soooo hard with our first (rough recovery, colicky baby, and had to pump b/c much trouble with breastfeeding), and at that point we had a lot of support and help and we didn’t have a toddler! But I also want to be safe and I want my mom to be safe, too! Thanks for your input!

Update: thank you for all the input! So we decided NOT to have her come... it just wasn’t worth the risk. With the 2 week quarantine we would be safe, but no guarantee for her safety. I wasn’t concerned about her being an asymptomatic carrier and spreading it around to others while traveling because she’s been sheltering in place for almost a month now... but the chances of her getting something are just too high right now. Please keep us in your prayers. It’s a lonely time to have a newborn and a toddler- we have absolutely no one to help. But I realize too that a lot of you are in the same boat!
