Is This Weird?

So my son is 15 and a half. He tends to have nightmares (He is is therapy. Sees him once a week). Well sometimes they will get so bad he decides to sleep in the bed with me and is dad. Only happens about 2 or 3 times a month, if that. Usually he will just try to go back to sleep, but if they are really bad he sleeps with us. My father-in-law says it's weird and will make him soft and dependant. Now my son is actually very independent. Last summer and went to clean yards to earn money. He almost never asks us for anything. He always tries to earn things for himself. He made over $2,000 in savings that summer! I'm not worried but my father-in-law says teens should never sleep in their parents bed no matter what. It's weird and be will be weak. Have any of you had your teens sleep in your bed because of nightmares and did any of you guys do it? I don't feel anything is wrong with it and I don't want to say he can't come to us anymore... Also his therapist says it's fine.
