Metformin

HELP! I’ve been taking metformin for my PCOS for about 2 1/2 weeks now and I started with 1 pill a day to see how my stomach will handle it and then I went to 2 a day because I was doing fine then I started having bad stomach pain, constipation, gas bubbles in my tummy but I can’t fart, so I went back to once a day but I feel I won’t get the full effect of the metformin if I only take it once a day instead of 2 times a day like I’m supposed to. Any ideas on how I can get stomach to be okay and be normal while taking it twice a day?
