Boyfriend and I raised differently
My boyfriend and I were both raised completely different and I feel like its starting to be a problem. We are 22 and 23 and both still live with our parents while we finish up school. His parents inherited millions so he’s always been well off. They don’t have to think twice about spending $50k on a new car. He’s never had a job and gets everything handed to him. He’s supposed to take over the family business after college. All of this has promoted him to being so lazy, not having a good work ethic, and not understanding how money works. I also had a good life but my parents taught me how to work for my money. I’ve had several jobs since I was 16. Fast food, to guest services, to now an engineer. My parents have never paid anything of mine. They taught me how to manage my money by teaching me to pay bills while still having some left over for savings and leisure. I have always been a go getter and work for what I want. I was on FaceTime with him last night and was about to buy a pair of shoes I’ve been wanting for months and told him I will be right back so I could get my moms opinion if she liked them. I came back and told him I was ordering them and he was like “Did you talk your mom into it?” And I’m like ? I didn’t talk her into anything its my money? We also go out to eat a lot by his choice, like 2-3 times a week, and we take turns paying. I pay for dinner from MY savings while everything is on his parents dime when he pays and he just doesn’t understand. Guys what can I do? I can’t keep doing this. I’ve tried talking to him but he just doesn’t understand. Maybe I’m not explaining it the right way. I’m literally spending $300+ a month on just food from being with him and he thinks I can just go out and buy a Gucci bag without any repercussions. I also want to add I’ve been out of work since December so I’m paying all my bills from savings. I don’t start my full time job until July and i graduate at the end of the month. Also before people start commenting on how i should be suggesting cheaper places to eat when it’s my turn to pay, i do. But then he proceeds to order an appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert while i just have a $15 entree.
