Did you sleep train your babe? If so comment tips please

My oldest I bedshared with but it was just us, and honestly he is STILL not a good sleeper at 3. My youngest is 6 months and has been a pretty good sleeper since day one. He was in an on the bed cosleeper up until a few days ago and now in the crib he won’t sleep more than 30-45 minutes for nap or bed. I would try stroking his face, giving his pacifier back, etc and eventually climb in and nurse him back to sleep then start allll over again 30-45 minutes later. I . Am . Exhausted. I need him to sleep in his crib because I want him to be used to it for when he is at his dads as his dad has an alcohol problem and I’m not sure if the courts will take it into consideration (we’ve already done mediation and the mediator disregarded it even though he admitted to having a problem)

I need tips on gentle sleep training methods. Is the baby wise book worth reading? I have it but haven’t read it. I will NOT do cry it out. I can let him fuss a bit but there’s a line for me where they have needs and those can be met while maintaining some sort of boundary but not allowing them to become distressed. Any tips/encouragement welcome. I’m a single mom and need sleep to handle these two and to get back to work. I think it’s some special kind of messed up for mothers to be expected to work when their baby isn’t even sleeping through the night and is still nursing but that’s a whole other post.
