Cheaper delivery w/o my crap insurance?

I have insurance, BCBS ppo.. however, my out of pocket cost is $15,800 with an $8k deductible and after that insurance only covers 30% until I reach the $15.8k and after that they would cover 100%
I’m devastated at the thought of having to pay almost 16k for my delivery... is there anyway that paying Self pay could be cheaper?? I’m in Houston

I would talk to your hospital, most doctors have a self pay program set up. In most cases it’s highly discounted due to the fact that they don’t have to deal with insurance. My hospital only requires that you pay it off before your expected due date.

I just gave birth uninsured in FL and my bill is $6,700 and $900 for my child. The cost before the adjustment for being uninsured was $33K.

It depends, because if you have anesthesia  (epidural) or a c section, your bill will run way higher than that. Out of pocket, a vaginal birth without much intervention is around $6k or so. A birthing center is another option.

Can you get on an HMO? You have to choose a specific doctor/specific hospital and get a referral to see any specialists, but they usually cover a higher percentage with no/lower deductibles.

WOW that's crazy...a fancy birth center in my area (so all prenatal plus delivery and facility fee) is only $8k without insurance. 
Definitely find somewhere cheaper lol
