Do you know your maternity benefits?

So I just found out I have to use my PTO for 2 weeks prior to getting my short term benefits. So basically I get 6 weeks of maternity leave but only actually get paid for 4 weeks of it. 
My company uses MetLife for our short term disability. I never read my policy nor do I think I was given a booklet. So it's partly my fault for not knowing.
I never had to use disability before and it's kind of a bullshit. I am going to complain my ass off at all my follow up visits now and milk it for all it's worth.
My job is kind of short handed but I feel like I worked for it. I always go out of my way to help them out. I work in healthcare and I feel like I have had to bend over backwards for them recently with this Covid shit.

Times like this, I am so grateful I live in the UK, I'm taking 43 weeks. 
39 weeks statutory maternity pay and 4 weeks holiday at the end.

Typically there is usually a 7 day wait period. It’s pretty standard. I will get 16 weeks off. 6 weeks disability and then 10 weeks paid family leave at 60% salary. I can also use PTO if I want to.  Good luck

STD at my work was 60% of regular hourly paycheck for 5 weeks (if vaginal birth)  or 7 weeks (if csection). It didn’t start till after the first week though. So technically it was 6 weeks off for natural birth & 8 weeks off for csection. I was able to take maternity leave for 12 weeks but that was unpaid. I had a csection so I automatically got off for 8 weeks and chose the option to take the full 12 weeks.
Week 1- paid PTO that I had accrued 
Week 2-8 STD checks
Week 9-12 no payment

My job uses Allstate for short term disability. You must have used all of your sick time before it kicks in. If you have a vaginal birth disability will cover 6 weeks and csection 8 weeks. But you only receive I want to say 70/80 % of your regular pay

i get 60% disability pay for 6 weeks, 4 weeks full pay “baby bonding” time.  after this i can use my vaca or take up to 10 more weeks but with no pay & my job would still be secure .

I have short term disability insurance. I have to use PDOs because it doesn’t kick in until after 15 days. After that it covers 60% of my paychecks for 12 weeks
