I think people make bad mistakes now and again and if they're willing to really commit to change, there is hope. But I would need some SERIOUS convincing and evidence to rebuild trust. Then, consistency over time.

I don't believe that people's personalities change while drunk. I believe inhibitions are lowered and their filters are off and the "true" person sometimes comes out. It is never okay even with all those stressors. It's good that's he's getting help, but you have to take care of you first. The chances of it happening again are very high.

I wouldn't trust it. Simply because I did trust that he'd change and that he was just drunk and it was just a one time thing but then it happened again  and again and again and I found myself saying "it won't happen again" after it happened countless times until I finally left. There's no excuse. You deserve better.

Are you willing to take the risk of it happening again, help or not? You have to decide for yourself what your limits and boundaries are. For me personally, you only have one time to put your hands on me in a negative way, drunk or sober, then I'm gone for good.
