I go back to work tomorrow - and I’m not happy

And let me just say I’m actually incredibly irritated about it.

So for the last 4 weeks we’ve been on administrative leave. My coworkers and I have expressed that we knew we wouldn’t be getting administrative leave these next two weeks, there’s just no way, so we wondered what would happen. Surely enough, we get a call a couple days ago stating we return Monday. The options were to be deployed into other state positions until this blew over, or not getting paid at all. Let me tell you, I would have much rather taken another job for however long this needed rather than go back to work where I do and here is why:

I work for vehicle inspections. My job relies on you as the customer being there with your original title, and your vehicle. The whole point of the inspection is to make sure your documents are okay and valid, and that your vehicle, and no parts on your vehicle, is stolen.

Lots of people complain about this, saying they shouldn’t have to do this. Can they just video chat is? Send pictures? Why do we need to do this at all because “surely there’s just not that many stolen vehicles.” (There are by the way, you’d honestly be very very surprised). We remind these people of the importance of making sure their paperwork isn’t faked or filled out incorrectly, and because people change numbers out on vehicles all the time with new parts, or plain out you have a previously stolen or currently stolen vehicle.

Okay, that’s my job. Customer interaction is a must and they have to bring the things required to get the inspection done. Or at least, that’s wha we’ve been told for the last 30 years this department has been running.

When I return on Monday, we’re not seeing customers. Customers won’t even come to us. They’re going to send us emails of pictures of their titles, and pictures of their vehicles and all their VINS. This completely and entirely discredits our entire system made in the last 30 years! We aren’t going to catch jack diddly doing this, and I guarantee you we’ll get sneaky people who actually have stolen vehicles to email us faked documents and pictures.

This will go on as long as it needs to. I’m so mad because all the work we’ve done is discredited and basically by doing this, they’re saying they don’t really need nor care about the service they make us provide. It’s infuriating. (Not to mention I get to drive 40 minutes every day to get and from work just to send emails).

Like I said, I’d much rather be sent out to another facility of some sort and work and get paid that way if necessary, because when this all finally does get back to normal, we have no ground to stand on to go back to the way things were.

I love my job and my coworkers 😔 this is just irritating.
