Dachshunds and little kids??

Question

I really want a dachshund but I keep hearing about how they don’t really get along with children too well.  I have a 5 month old and an 18 month old, and I really want a dog that will get along with them.  I know that it depends on how you train the dog too, but I keep reading that they have a jealous personality so they may not be the best with kids.  
Does anyone know much about these dogs?? I think they are so cute 😊😊
Please don’t bash me for not rescuing, that is also something I am considering

Don’t ever get a pet based on how cute you think they are. Dogs have personalities just like people have personalities, you can’t say a specific race or nationality acts a certain way. Meet the dog, several times, see how it interacts with your children, lots of rescues for different breeds let you foster to adopt. Honestly though, I can’t imagine adding any dog into the mix of a 5 month and 18 month old, those would be some of the worst ages to add a dog imo.

I have a dachshund and he is amazing. I will say, he is super skittish around kids. After the kid calms down, and he warms up to them, he’s their best friend. You definitely have to teach kids to be careful with them because honestly they are very fragile. I would go and try to meet some and see how they do! I know right now is crazy but maybe they’ll be a dog show after this ends of something like that 🤷🏼‍♀️ this is my Baloo

Always factor in what a dog is bred to do. Dachshunds are hunters. They have a prey drive. My mom has one and while he is sweet and super needy, I couldn't trust him not to disembowel any stuffed toy of my son's. They and chihuahuas are the top breeds for biting but plenty of them do well in families with children. Can you be firm with training? They can be very stubborn and they're smart.
Seriously think about what your needs are and what you can handle. Energy levels, breed quirks, grooming needs, barking, etc. 
For us, a livestock guardian would best suit us. We have the time for training, we favor large breeds, we would need something good with children and other species, high protection drive with low prey drive, not afraid of large livestock.

My parents have 4 of them and I have 2. They all love kids. They go out in the backyard and play with my niece and nephew. They’re very hyper but they have never been mean.

my mom has one that we’ve had since i was little, and she’s always hated kids. 😂 my mom ran a daycare so she was always around them, she would never hurt any of them but she definitely did not like them.
