What are your thoughts?

I recently started talking to my ex that I dated in high school (5 years ago). Would it be dumb to give it another shot? When we were together things were great, but turned so fast. He ended up talk to his ex at the time and ended things with me over text. We’ve been talking now for a week or so and it feels like old times. He seems more mature but also has brought up his ex a few times. Not sure if he’s just putting the info out there or what (talking about stuff that went wrong in their relationship and how she cheated). He says he’s ready to settle down and isn’t looking for hookups/partying.
