Pros and cons please??

To having your water break naturally, versus having your doctor break it. Someone give me pros and cons please!

Literally no difference. Doctors broke mine the first time. It broke on its own for pregnancy two. Felt the exact same, had a c section both times. The one and only difference is the doctor breaking it was much cleaner. Breaking in its own at home was a huge fucking mess and forced me into getting a new couch hahaha is much prefer having it controlled at the hospital by a doctor rather than a surprise all over my living room.

The actual break doesnt feel different. Having the doctor shove a hook up my cervix was a hell of a lot more painful than it breaking while i was relaxing at home. Even my husband watching me was grimacing in pain while they did it.

I think that all depends on how your labors going on if you can even control that. I went into labor and my water wasn’t breaking like it needed to but I was already dilated and I had to have my water broken. I will say you don’t even feel it. It’s not scary.

Mine broke on its own with my first, and the midwife broke it with my second. No difference except my husband saw it the second time, he said it was impressive lol. I didn’t feel a thing when the midwife did it, but I was also 9cm without an epidural in the midst of back-to-back contractions. Both times the contractions were definitely more painful after.

I’ve had 3 kids, my water only broke naturally with my 2nd child. Absolutely no difference to me. I feel like it may have made my labor quicker as my 2nd labor was the quickest out of all 3. But who knows. Other than that, nothing was different.

Not necessarily. Mine didn’t break. It only happens that way about 1% of the time. But it was all God because I was Strep B positive and couldn’t have antibiotics so she was 100% protected!

It doesn’t matter. It’s going to break either way. Having it broken will speed labor up.
