First pregnancy! What's the first doctor appointment like?

Hi everyone! I took several tests and according to this app I'm about 6 weeks pregnant. I can't get into my new doctors (I just moved into this are and I have to go to a boy! Wahhh) anyway, my appt is the 19th so I'll be about 7.5 weeks prego? I know in movies and stuff they always do a sonogram to find out if your pregnant but what is the first Appointment like? When do I get my first sonogram? Is the first appointment important enough for my husband to take off from work and come too? I don't want him to miss the first sonogram but I'm not sure if that actually happens at the first appt. So what should I expect? Thanks!

I just had my first appt. with my first baby on the 4th & it was awesome! My husband did take off of work & I am so glad because my doctor did an ultrasound & we got to see the heartbeat! She also told us SO much useful information & I was so glad to have my husband there to help me take it all in! 😊 hope that this helps & your first appt. goes well!!

My first appointment I was like 6 weeks, all my doctor did was feel my cervix, & did a culture + pap smear to test for any infectuons, STDs, etc. She also took blood.. I won't get to actually see the baby until my next appt on Monday.. I don't know if every doctors like that because my sister got a ultrasound her first appt.. Maybe call your doctor & see what your first appointment will be like?

My first appointment they did health history, pap smear,  uterus exam to measure as we were unsure how far along I was, and had an US.

They all seem to have their own way of doing things. My first appointment was just my doctor getting my medical history, and a lot of blood work. I didn't get a pap or an ultrasound until appointments 2 and 3.

I asked when I made my appt if my husband should come and they highly suggested it. They also told me ahead of time what to expect. I was 9 weeks at my first appointment. I had a an exam with my pap, blood work and an ultrasound. :)

I've had 2 losses so it's a little different for me but the normal first appt is between 7-8 weeks u/s blood work and pap with the nurse practitioner. Then you see the dr between 10-12 weeks.
