🎊🎏Happy Kodomo No Hi🎏🎊
Happy Kodomo No Hi everybody
Kodomo No Hi (May 5) means Children’s Day
Its a day in japan to celebrate children
In the past it went under a different name and was a day to celebrate boys (girls had and still have their own special day Hina Matsuri which is sometimes also called dolls festival) and although it was changed to a day to celebrate all children the day still primarily focuses on boys (since girls have Hina Matsuri)
A lot of families will fly Karp windsocks infront of their houses, these are called “Koi no bori”
Special doll or helmet displays are displayed prominently in the house, the designs can mean strength etc (our display is actually the same one my husband had as a child!) and you eat kashiwa mochi (a special type of rice cake filled with red beans and wrapped up in oak leaves) and Chimaki (sticky sweet rice cake wrapped bamboo leaves)
There is a lot more to it but that’s a basic explanation.
My husband and I took some photos of our son on this special day, it didn’t go to plan since we couldn’t find his baby hakama (a traditional outfit) anywhere and by the time we gave up searching and decided to just have him wear his baby suit I was too exhausted to set up the background properly.
Because of that I’m still editing since the white of the backdrop is a mess lol
But here is the first photo, will probably update with the rest if I have a chance to edit them tomorrow.
Wishing everyone a happy Kodomo No Hi❤️ 🎏🎊
