What did/ do you feed your 8 month old?

Question

I’ve just been giving my baby purées that  I make from the Baby Bullet. 
Mainly apple sauce/ peas/ butternut squash / bananas/ sweet potato. And now and then whole grain  baby cereal 
I went on YouTube and saw moms giving their babies cut up lunch meat, eggs/ toast . 
I’m not fully comfortable giving her that in fear of choking. 
She’s 8 months and 1 week and breastfeed

I gave her whatever we ate. Eggs, waffles, pancakes, avocado toast, sausage, chicken nuggets, hamburger meat, steak, eggs with spinach, mandarins, strawberries, cantaloupe, broccoli, green beans, and lots of other stuff I can’t think of right now. If it’s cut in the appropriate size then it’ll be alright. Also there’s a huge difference between choking and gagging. Gagging is when they’re making noise, they get red, and that’s ok it helps them learn. Choking is when they’re silent and get blue. A Facebook page I like a lot for cutting guides and choking hazards is Baby led weaning and combo fed without the woo.

We did baby lead weaning so she was having soft vegetables, strips of meat, soft pastas and rice starting at 6 months. No issues

For me my level of comfort depends on the number of teeth baby has. With no teeth or just a couple I’d give eggs and other soft foods. I gave my son tiny pieces of meats but I wouldn’t just give him a bowl of it to feed himself. 
My 16 month old eats pretty much everything now except steak and he has been given a few bites of it but won’t even try to chew it. He also still eats purées because he just likes them. I buy the pouches tho and he can feed himself. Whatever he eats now he feeds himself. 
Feed your baby what you’re comfortable with. I wasn’t comfortable with the baby led weaning folks are doing now so I didn’t do it and won’t do it if I have another. Our pediatrician didn’t recommend it either.

I started with purées, and slowly introduced harder foods. Started with baby mum mums, ABC muffins (look them up. Super soft and perfect), avocado, and lightly toasted toast with coconut oil on it to soften it a bit. Oh, and fries. Well, I cut up yam and put in oven.

He gets what we eat within reason.  Like we had tacos the other night so he got beans meat and cheese with cilantro and a bit of sour cream lime sauce
(On the floor because he’s terrified of the high chair for some reason)

When we do spaghetti he gets chopped up meatballs and noodles with a bit of sauce.

At 8 months I was giving my son strips of egg, toast, chopped fruit and veg, baby rice cakes, baby puff crisps savoury muffins and pasta etc. He’s 10 months now so eats lots more finger foods. 
I know it can be daunting but I’m glad we introduced BLW pretty early as now my son will eat almost anything we put in front of him (as long as it’s soft)! Today, for example, he was eating strips of steak without any issues!
I read a that a good indicator as to when a baby is ready for finger foods (if you start with purées) is when they try to grab the spoon and feed themselves. If your daughter is doing that it might be time to try solids. You could start with something like a soft banana cut into strips.

We did baby led weaning with our first. So she was eating what we were eating, cooked correctly and cut correctly. 
You could try banana oatmeal pancakes, beans, blueberries (halves), shredded chicken, shredded carrots, rice, cooked pasta, sliced cheese.

I would give my son eggs, toast in strips, puffs, soft veggies, soft fruits, purées, mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese.. easy to eat foods and don’t require a lot of chewing

Avocado is high in fat and great for first finger foods! Eggs are great too but, my daughter hated eggs lol. Shredded cheese and mushy bananas are great.

By 8m my son had 0 teeth and was mostly eating what we were eating. At 18m he still occasionally chokes on food if he doesn't chew it well enough, but that's part of learning. At 8m we wouldn't let him eat unsupervised and gave him small pieces. Sometimes shredded up in a food processor, sometimes just cooked to be really soft
