Taking baby to a concentration camp??

Question

My husband and I are planning a trip to Germany next September and we will have a 9 month old by then. We’re going to Munich and planning day trips to Salzburg, Austria and the castles but we really want to visit Dachau concentration camp while we’re there. 
I’m not sure if it’s an appropriate place for a baby though, if they start to get fussy we’ll take immediate action to not disturb anyone of course. Any opinions on the matter?

Take your baby. I'm from Germany and I can assure you that's totally okay here. As long as you're being conscious about others and trying your best to not disturb anyone. We're appreciating everyone who wants to educate themselves about this horrible part of history. And it's totally worth it. Maybe try to go during the time of day your baby is most content if you can plan the time you're going to visit the camp.

I probably wouldn’t. 
For one thing, as you pointed out, the baby could be disruptive to others even despite your best efforts. That’s not because you have a bad baby or are a bad mom, it’s just the nature of kids.  But this is a situation where I’d really want to avoid any disruption. 
Secondly, I don’t see much of an upside. Your child won’t remember any of it and it’s not like you can take some cute family photos there for your kid to look at in the future, at least not without it being a bit crass.

Take snacks, I’d suggest baby wearing if possible too, that way babe is more likely to be quiet and easy.

My 9 month old is extremely well behaved and would be absolutely intrigued by new surroundings. He wouldn’t be fussy at all. We took him to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago when he was 4 months. I wore him in a baby wrap outward facing and he was quiet and curious the entire time (I know it’s different that a concentration camp, just providing an example). That’s just my baby though. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Others have said Germany is much more baby friendly, but maybe there is someone you can ask or research you can do about taking babies with. Good luck! 🤞🏼

I don’t think a baby is going to care since they are very young. Maybe elementary age. Are you going to a concentration camp to see the history ? 
I think kids should learn the history of places, and how it changed the lives of everyone. 
Even plantation sites are important for kids to learn how things use to be, and what the world is now. 
Kids shouldn’t be sheltered from history. A baby though will not understand the educational value yet.

Go for it.
When me and my husband visited Auschwitz, there was a school group of teenagers, who were singing and 'dancing' along the paths... And we found that disturbing. On the other hand there were couples with strollers and it was ok. Besides, as far as we've been there, it's not like the majority of the museums, but it's placed outside, of course. So if your baby gets fussy, there is a lot of space to go to... 
I believe in Dachau is quite similar...

P. S. I found it more disturbing that we were there 1 month after our wedding, but since we were travelling across Europe as our honeymoon, and it just lined up like this, so we didn't have any other choice if we wanted to visit it. 🤷‍♀️
