Can you hold your baby too much??

Is anyone else getting conflicting information? My mom and friends who have had children of their own tell me to not hold our LO (we are FT parents) too much as he sleeps bc he will get use to being held. Our lactation consultant told us at the hospital that independent babies become dependent adults. My mom also thinks I’m feeding him too much and shouldn’t pick him up every time he cries at night (she thinks he should cry it out). We tell her that babies at this age cry for a reason. I’m a lone in this??
