How does credit work? Am I building credit?

So I have a credit card in my name but connected to my parent’s account. The idea being that I could buy myself meals on it instead of them giving me cash (I’m in HS) and it’ll build my credit score. Is that how it works?

As long as you’re making payments on time and don’t make any late payments or over charge it should build your credit. Though your parents are the ones responsible for making payments it still builds your credit score as long as the charges are paid off and on time.

Yes it will slowly build credit as long as they are paying on time. My husband had an allowance credit card in conjunction to his parents account and now has a great credit score. As long as they are paying they are doing a great service to your future credit score! Congrats!
