How do you get baby to sleep for naps?

My LO is 1 year old, and I have always nursed him to sleep for naps. My mom can get him to sleep by bouncing, but he will not fall asleep if I don’t nurse him. He will scream for 30 minutes straight and it’s so sad, so I always end up nursing him and he falls asleep. What do I do? I have to stop if I ever want him to wean himself. TIA!

For me the very last nursing session was before bed. Personally I don’t see any issue with nursing to sleep. Once he self weaned I gave him his soother instead and cuddled him to sleep on my chest to replace it. I like going to sleep to be a peaceful event instead of screaming. I don’t see any reason to leave my baby to cry before bed. For me it’s a great bonding experience and a nice way to decompose at the end of the day.

Start slowly stopping nursing earlmin the process.  Like pay close attention and as soon as he starts to drift off stop. Then after a day or two wait till hes drowsy. Then nurse for a min and stop and just rock or bounce.  It might help

For naps I hold my one year old and sing a few songs. She will fight her naps unless we sing to her and distract her until she gets sleepy.

Sleep training. I snuggle my daughter for like two minutes, sing a song, and lay her down. She goes to sleep. On a bad day, she talks to herself for 20 mins before passing out.
