Amniocentesis worth the risk?

I just found out my husband and I are both carriers for CF. I know amniocentesis is an option to find out if baby is CF positive. Just wondering if anyone has done it? I read it’s risky so I’m scared to go through with it. Also wondering what this first visit with maternal fetal medicine dr is going to be like - so any experience with this stuff is appreciated . Thanks :).
