Telehealth appointment fraud?
I had a telehealth appointment a few weeks ago because my doctors office was trying to limit person-to-person contact.
It was pretty much a five minute video chat. No one checked my vitals of course, no one listened to my baby’s heart beat with a Doppler, no one checked my growth, etc.. That was all fine and honestly I didn’t care...but then I got the bill.
They billed me for a regular office visit. Used the same billing code for previous in-office appointments I’ve had where a medical assistant has checked all my vitals, weight, etc., and the doctor comes in and checks baby’s heart beat and measures my belly...wtf.
I didn’t use services from any ancillary staff. They didn’t have to clean an exam room. There was no “facility” that needed to be paid for.
I work in health care so I feel like an idiot for maybe not understand this...but shouldn’t a telehealth appointment cost way less?? Isn’t this like basically healthcare fraud??
