1st herpes outbreak - 36 weeks pregnant

Ladies,

I need some insight. My husband and I have exclusively been together for 10 years, and I am experiencing a first herpes outbreak at 36 weeks. My midwife has now referred me to a maternal fetal specialist because I was planning on a birth center birth (for the second time). She seemed pretty confident that I would not be able to deliver at the birth center (or possibly even vaginally) since it is my first outbreak and my body is not “used to it”. Has anyone had an initial outbreak near the time of delivery and been allowed to deliver vaginally?

I am beyond overwhelmed.
