Teach your child emergency protocols

MW

Last week, my stepdad had a mini stroke. My brother and mother were right there, thank god! They called the ambulance and took care of it right away.

It had me thinking that before this incident, my 4 (almost 5) year old was with him quite often by himself. When I was little, my mom taught me to call 911 by essentially playing dead and leaving me and my younger brother no other choice but to remember what we were taught and call!

However, that was in the days when we had land lines and I could pick up the phone and dial 911. Super simple.

In this day with only cell phones, most of which are locked in some way, a lot of them different from apple to Samsung, how in the hell do I teach my son how to call 911??? What do I do to make sure if there is an emergency, that he has someone he could call? As of now, I just taught him to find an adult, go to the neighbors, etc.

how are all of you parents handling this?
