tampons!!!

i’ve just recently started using tampons a few months ago so i’m still new to them and don’t understand everything. i don’t have a heavy flow so i started out using regulars (kotex click) but i still managed to leak through them even though there was still a lot of white areas on the tampon. i read that it was probably because i needed a lighter tampon so i got the tampax pearl in light but i’m still leaking before the tampon is full...what could be the problem here?
