First girl’s name? Reasons in post!
My husband and I will be having our first baby. He is Puerto Rican and we want to honor his heritage with the first name if possible. For the middle name we will be honoring my family with a family name, which for a girl would be Rose (my sister and great-grandmother.)
- Paquita (pah-KEE-tah) meaning “free”, is his abuela’s name. His abuela is very close to him and is blessedly still alive in her 90’s, just the sweetest woman ever. As a nickname she has gone by Paqui or Kiki. We would love to honor her and I love the uniqueness of this name. I think it’s so cute and the woman she would be named for is so wonderful.
- Reina, of course meaning “queen”, is a name I have always loved. The Spanish spelling makes it unique to other “Rainas” I have known, and the meaning is great in raising a strong girl. My husband and sister, however, think “Reina Rose” sounds like a stripper or country singer. Haha!
- Lucia, meaning “light”, is a name my husband loves. His aunt Luisa (close but not the same name) is a favorite of ours and we do love the meaning. I’ve always loved Lucy and variants thereof since I was a little girl. HOWEVER, we live in a city and state with a very high Hispanic population and Lucia is a super popular name, so it wouldn’t have the uniqueness I want.
- Aurora, meaning “dawn”, isn’t actually a Hispanic name, although it is used by Hispanic families that I know. Also, Aurora Rose is the name of Sleeping Beauty - we are big Disney fans and Sleeping Beauty is my husband’s favorite but it might be a little TOO on the nose. My sister doesn’t like it and her opinion is important to me since we are using the middle name to honor her (Rose.)
