Is it okay to miss work to care for you sick boyfriend? Explanation below

I always worry over missing too much work. My boyfriend had a severe headache with nausea earlier and I want to get him an appointment at the doctor ASAP to rule out anything serious. He can't drive himself due to sensitivity to light. Is it reasonable to miss work over this? Worried how work will react

Does he have a history of needing to go to the hospital due to this? If not, then no. He's an adult, you have work, I'm sure he can figure it out.

Sounds like a migraine to me usually Excedrin works well for that but to me it's really not something worth taking the day off trust me I know as I too suffer from them all the time but I still get things done

As the boss, I found it ridiculous when people would call out due to someone other than themselves having an illness. Children are the exception and only when the other parent isn't there. I had a girl call out cause her BF was sick, another because of a sick grandmother and one because her kid was sick and couldn't come in even though her husband was home too. It was like why the hell can't he take care of your sick child? If the person never missed work and did it, I'd be more reasonable but often the people who do this have issues reporting to work anyhow and it just seems like another excuse. It would make me harder on them at work and they generally didn't last long. People who don't show up are usually poor workers even when they make it in.

Sounds like a migraine. He's a big boy and can take care of himself by lounging in a dark room while you go to work. In all honesty, the thing I want the most when I have a horrible migraine is to close out the world; no people around, no sunlight, no sounds, no movement. I want people to leave me alone and get out of the house so that there's absolutely no possibility of sounds/etc from them being around.

Personally neither me nor my husband has ever missed work when the other was ill.  I had a two week stretch of migraines but only missed work once and never would have asked him to miss for me.  We couldn't afford to lose the money, anyway!  I think adults can take care of themselves, unless it's hospital-level severe.
