What are you doing when baby throws tantrum?

I basically try to divert his attention to something else but it doesn’t always work
What are you all doing ? Saying “no” definitely doesn’t work for us. He knows no means no but he still does it lol

I just let her have one. Its good for them to learn to let it out sometimes. As long as she's not hitting or throwing things, sometimes we just let her be upset. Generally it's crying and screaming and then getting her blanket and sitting sad til she calms. Sometimes we intervene and try to divert or calm her but we all need to loose it sometimes too haha

I literally tell her, “I’m very sorry you are feeling so sad right now. If you need mommy, I am right here.” Usually she gets bored of thrashing and screaming and will just get up and go play. Ha.

I redirect if possible and if not I will hold him or rub his back while naming the emotion and cause and then stating an alternative he can do if necessary (most tantrums are about me telling him he cannot do something). Something like “I know you are angry but we cannot eat rocks you can eat this apple instead though”. If we’re out in public I will try to get his attention by picking him up and moving him to a less stimulated area and doing the same.

Distract when she’s being naughty.  Try to ignore the tantrum.  Giving attention during a tantrum teaches kids that they can get attention by being naughty.

Right now she is teething so she is extra sensitive. But typically if she is fussing/ throwing a tantrum,  I check to see if she needs a diaper change, is hungry/thirsty, sleepy, etc. If she isn't trying to communicate a need, I try to distract her. I want to start teaching her some calming techniques but wasn't sure how to do that or when it would be age appropriate.
