This goes for either a son or daughter, it’s irrelevant. 
If they’re old enough to understand what it means, that in essence, it’s permanent and they are responsible enough to understand the care and cleaning it requires etc then sure. 
It pisses me off so much when people get their babies ears pierced😡 
I love my piercer because she refuses to pierce any ears under age 5 for this exact reason

I let my son get his ear pierced when he was 8, he is now 10 and still loves it

I remember a friend of my trying to pierce her own belly button with a safety pin and getting a nasty infection. My husband did his ear in a garage at 11 with a thumbtack so we decided if our boys askes we would take them. Our oldest was terrified of needles and didnt ask until he was 17. The youngest is now 12 and hasn't asked but if he did I would take him just to make sure it was done safely and correctly.

But I will also my kids can’t have piercing this far bc my girls body just rejects them and tried absorb them so Idk if I’d risk my son going here the hell my girls did. 
We go theirs done at the same time because they asked for them and then we went threw months of hell afterwards bc their bodies over hyper reacted and tried to reject and absorb them despite cleaning ect . They were both told hat their bodies will react this was to any piercing they ever have in their life and it’s a genetic thing . 
So I would in a idea situation have no issue with it but in our situations no
