Improve maternal mortality rates in the U.S

I lost my oldest sister when I was 16, due to medical malpractice/maternal morbidity. She was delivering her first child and due to unanticipated complications she didn’t make it nor did my niece 👼🏽. Our family later learned that three other women not including my sister received the same care at this hospital, and all the women had passed away. “African American women are four times more likely to suffer from maternal morbidity and mortality, and there has been no large-scale improvement over the course of 20 years to rectify these conditions” cdc.gov •

For years this traumatized me into not desiring my own children. First handedly witnessing this injustice, no explanation. No peace. •

The last time I saw her in her hospital room, I told her “I loved her”....for the last time. •

• I share this because it’s happening to US! BLACK WOMEN ARE ALSO DYING! RIGHT NOW! I share this because I want to be the CHANGE I needed. It finally took me years before I found Endometriosis care. On average it still takes us 7 years to be clinically diagnosed. When doctors told me “it’s nothing we can do”, “I’m sorry but this is normal”, These memes are nuggets of TRUTH. Overall this has been a really emotional time for me rehashing so many deep & buried memories. I get exhausted from the thought of how often we aren’t able to make a CHANGE.
