Possible ocular migraines?

Recently I have noticed my eyesight becoming blurred like I'm underwater or sometimes blurry and then slowly sharpening. Then the other day I had a searing shot of pain in my head and eyes and there was a whole part of my vision that was dull and blurred. Every thing around it was clear.

The blurred part began to get bigger and my headache increased astronomically.

I went to see an optician and they said that my eyes were okay, no signs of tumours or trauma, but I found out I have astigmatism which explains why sometimes things are blurry and why it takes me a while to focus in on things but the optician told me to call my gp because it sounds like the symptoms are worse because of an underlying condition like ocular migraines or low blood pressure. I've an appointment for next week.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? And if so what were the methods of strengthening your eyes and/or ridding your migraines?
