Miss, Ma’am, Hon

I think this is the right place for this if not, sorry!

I work in customer service and I call a lot of people hun. It’s easy and it can be for literally ANYONE since I don’t always know peoples pronouns and therefore can’t always use, Miss, ma’am or sir. I have also found that younger people, most younger women, don’t like being called ma’am.

So I was out with my friends one day and they pretty much told me that I am being rude when I call people Hun. I want to know what you all think? Is it rude to call people hun, Miss or ma’am/which one is the best?
