Is anyone else scared for their life to get pregnant and give birth?

Especially as a black woman seeing the stats of deaths in labour and stillbirths in the UK is so scary. People say the UK isn't racist but they have a prejudice opinion in hospitals that black people have a higher pain threshold than any other race which is not true. If we're in pain, the nurses and doctors will bypass it, think we're delusional and turn us away. This makes me scared to ever try for a baby in the future. I'm actually considering having a surrogate mother.

I had two black midwives when giving birth with my last one. Maybe this can help. You can go and take a look at the hospital or birth centre beforehand and speak to midwives.

Yes absolutely!
As a black woman living in the UK and expecting my first child it’s nightmare inducing. I don’t really fear labour or the pain but what I do fear is things going wrong and not being listened to by medical staff and losing mine and/or my child’s life because of it. I’ve had many instances where I’ve gone to hospitals, GP’s, urgent cares and not being listened to or treated for a recurrent problem that I am experienced with. So the added fear of going into the unknown of labour and knowing how black woman are treated in medical environments has been a consistent worry throughout my pregnancy, so much so that at times I can’t enjoy it.

I'm kinda hoping to never have kids and I'm an ace lesbian, so I'm not really scared since the chances of me getting pregnant are close to nothing. That's not gonna stop me from using IUDs or getting my tubes tied though since not everyone values consent. So maybe me being worried about that means there's just a little bit of fear.

I’m not (like not anymore than is normal) but I’m white and live in Canada. My fear of stillbirth was higher with my second because I had a friend who had a stillbirth two weeks after I gave birth to my first and that affected me deeply. I’d probably be terrified if I was a woc - rates of death are so much higher if you’re a woc and it’s not really talked about that much. I agree with some of the other commenters - I had midwives for both my births and loved going that route. I’d also recommend looking into a doula if you get pregnant so that you have a personal advocate during your birth.

When I gave birth to my daughter I recurved the best care from the midwives. I went into labour at 37 weeks and I called them about the pain I was having and they told me to come to get checked, they said I was 2cm dilated and they put me on the labour ward. My daughter was born 5 hours later the two midwives that I had were amazing they even tried to give me gas and air but I didn’t like it, I preferred a natural birth. None of my relatives had bad experiences during pregnancy and labour either.
