Eating too much?

Question

Can a baby eat too much? I feed her and then 15 minutes later she wants to eat again. She throws up her milk a lot and she has so many diapers. As soon as I feed her I usually have to change her twice. I was told If she roots around to feed her but I don't think her tummy can take all the milk? Anyone else having this issue?

How old is your baby? It's totally normal for a very young baby to feed frequently.

She is breastfed. I think my milk flows too fast and she eats a lot in a small amount of time. Went to a lactating consultant for some help

Yes, they can eat too much. It depends on whether you breastfeed or bottle feed. I do both b/c I have to supplement. Sometimes when my son is rooting around he really just wants to use my breast as a pacifier Lol (I do allow him a pacifier) So first I see if an actual pacifier will suffice for him but if not I go ahead and put him to my breast. They say it's difficult to overfeed a breastfed baby since they can pull away once they're full and b-milk metabolizes much faster so I don't mind. Once he's finished breastfeeding I supplement w/2-2.5oz of formula (he's only 3 wks old). He's got a bit of reflux and gags/chokes on too much milk so I just try to feed him slowly so he realizes when he's full and content :)

Are they drinking from a bottle? It's pretty easy to overfeed a baby with a bottle since the baby is too little to control how much milk they get. Maybe you could try feeding only a little bit at a time?

Yes she can eat to much.   I know someone where baby was constantly hungry but throwing up.   She ended up going to er and they told her baby was being over fed.
