Maternity vs nursing bra?

14 weeks 3 days current bras not fitting - too tight around but cup seems ok. Do I go to a regular bra store? Or shop for a maternity or nursing bra? And what's the main difference? Wire/no wire? Need some advice.

I bought wire free bras from Hanes at target. The best thing ever! They give full support and coverage. They have a bunch of different ones. I won't buy any nursing bras till just before baby comes.

If it's too small around you can buy extenders until the cup becomes to small. Then you will want to buy like one or two bras the next size up, which can be nursing but once the baby is born you won't wear them again for quite a while until you stop nursing much less.  Honestly if you buy nursing bras now to try and fit when baby arrives they will not fit.

Thank you everyone! I have been properly fitted before, but thank you for the tips. So many of us don't know what a proper fit is. I ended up getting the same bra I already own in a different size. I've gone from a 30DD to a 34D. It's crazy how much my rib age has expanded.

I wasn't able to find any soft (no underwire) bras, but I will keep looking.

I did not buy nursing bras til baby came and I am very glad I waited. I started a 32 A. Halfway through, I hit a 32 C and was going to buy new bras. I almost got nursing bras then but I was afraid that my boobs would grow more so I got some comfy stretchy non-underwire bras. I also got a couple "cute" bras for very cheap a couple timea through as needed. Well, by the time baby came I was a 32 DDD... I bought nursing bras then and they were the right fit til I finished breastfeeding when my boy hit 15 months. I know many women don't have as drastic of a change but this obviously was a good decision for me to buy inexpensive and elastic bras when I could. I know when you are nursing that underwire bras can cause clogged ducts so I wouldn't use those down the road but I do not know that there are any issues during pregnancy.

Go to a bra store and make sure they fit you properly. A properly fitting bra for us preggos should be snug on the *tightest* hooks (rib cages expand), fit in the cups- with some room to fill into but not much and most importantly make sure the wires aren't on your breast tissue!! You should have the wires hit where boob meets body on the sides and not be on your tissue where the "heart center" is. If you go to a knowledgable boutique/ bra fitter they should know all this- but most stores in my experience do not fit bras well. Bra fitting is what I do and I make sure all my mamma's to be get a perfect fit. Wire or wire free is a personal preference
