What would you do?

My sister in laws bridal shower will be when I am 32 weeks pregnant. She’s having it 3 hours away in a town where I know no one so I wouldn’t have anywhere to stay the night. Also my husband works that weekend so I would be going there with my 2 year old by myself. I’m not totally comfortable with it due to COVID, but I’ll be back at work so I think my sister in laws and MIL would likely just view that as a selfish excuse. I also just don’t want to drive 3 hours with a 2 year old while 32 weeks pregnant just to chase her around at a bridal shower. BUT I am due the weekend of my sister in laws wedding so I won’t be going to the wedding either.. ughh what would you guys do?!

Bridal showers are stupid anyway.
Just make it up with a more expensive gift to make them shut up. 
We go to family events that are 3 hours away and we have a place to stay.. but there's no fucking way I would do that drive alone with my toddler and that pregnant.

Honestly, anyone who would be upset with you for not going during this time isn’t really all that great anyway.  2 hour drive with a toddler...pregnant...now?  I’d pass.  But that’s just me 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’d send a sweet letter and flowers the day of and call it a day. We’ve had to miss out on many family things. I’m practicing doing what’s best for us too, and not just everyone else all the time.

It would be horrible for your MIL and SIL to make you feel bad about not going. ESPECIALLY during a pandemic when you’re so close to your due date. I’ve heard too many stories of women catching COVID-19 at events like this and going into early labor because of the stress on their bodies from the virus. Then, they don’t get to be with their baby for 2 weeks because they’re positive. That is one outcome of going, anyway. You do what you think is best to keep your babies safe ❤️

I think you made the right decision for you, your body, and children. Driving alone 3 hours with a 2yo can be exhausting and very stressful. You’re in your 3rd trimester and NEED to keep your family safe. Your brother and SIL should be understanding and flexible with you, but if they give you a hard time it’s just because they cannot relate to the situation you’re in. It’s totally ok to say “no” to good things like an event, in order to prioritize your health/family.

I would check with your doctor before deciding anything. Given the current situation, your doctor may want you to limit travel to prevent preterm labor or complications. Also, just my personal opinion, 3 hours each way alone while pregnant and with an active toddler... that would be a big no for me. There are days that I feel to exhausted/distracted to drive the 35-45 minutes to my sister’s house. There’s no way I could do a three hour drive each way. It’s a tough position, but yours and your children’s health and safety come first. Good luck 😊

Since you can’t make the wedding I’d make more of an afford to make the shower. It’s also pretty hard driving 3 hours so far in pregnancy with a toddler soooo they should understand either way. Maybe an expensive gift, maybe a personal phone call to your SIL expressing extreme remorse but still offering to help with the shower (like game ideas, food ideas, etc)
