Birthday registry?

So I've known of a few people who make a birthday registry. Is this a normal thing to do? Are you making one? 
I understand the purpose behind it but cant help but think its a bit rude in a way? I don't want to come across that way.

I’m doing one and some of my friends have as well. Mostly doing it for family but if my friends ask I will tell them. Both of our families want to get her stuff she needs. I appreciate all of the thought that goes into gifts but I don’t live in a mansion. I really don’t have the space or need for 75 stuffed animals or 100 outfits. I think most people I know would rather get her stuff she can use instead of stuff that will get donated. I don’t have the heart to return stuff. I actually plan on keeping a running registry for the foreseeable future for her for our families to reference for birthdays and holidays.

Nope never heard of it. Plus I barely got anything off of my baby shower registry so I would highly think i won’t get anything off a birthday one.

I havent heard of it but definitely see the desire to do so.  My son has gotten so many things he doesnt need and cant use for both of his birthdays.     But I do this it's a touch rude if you ask people to only get things off of that.   Now if you made like an amazon list and if someone asked what they wanted or needed you could say I made a list on amazon if you want to use that or I can tell you.   But dont insist on people buying from it

I’ve heard of a lot of people doing it too! I made one only because I just would prefer if my daughter would play with toys that doesn’t have sound. I really like the Montessori style toys and I’m a teacher so we use these types of toys at school. It helps build there imagination

I made one for my son a couple years ago and shared it to the event but also said no presents necessary. Mostly it was used by non-parents (my brothers who don’t have kids) and relatives who live far away but wanted to send something. I personally like when people have a list to reference because I want to get something the kid will like/or needs.

I have an amazon list of things my daughter needs (i mean, toys and books mostly). It’s mostly for me to keep track of it all, but if any grandparents ask what they can get for her, i’ll share the link. I wouldn’t share it with them unsolicited though.

With social distancing i had many people ask me to create a wish list so they have an idea of what my baby likes and needs

I have an Amazon wishlist that I add things to. If people ask for suggestions I will share it, but I won't just send it to people. I mainly use it to keep ideas for myself for him.
