Do he have any rights?

I took my son's father off child support. He was constantly begging me and saying terrible things to me because I put him on there. He said I put money before my child, I'm messing up his life etc. He was so abusive and I got tired of it, so I took him off. I  want to take my child out of his life and I don't want any dealings at all with him whether it's court ordered or whatever. By me taking him off, do he have any rights to my child anymore?

Child support doesn’t give or take away his rights. He’s the child’s father so he’s got rights. I gotta say it was a huge mistake to take him off child support. Child support is your child’s RIGHT. As mothers we have to stand up for our kids rights and you just threw your child’s rights out the door. Idc how much he whined and complained.

Yes he still has rights to the child. Lol him signing over parental rights and not paying child support are two totally different things. And I’d put him back on....idk why you would do that. He made the child and should help financially support said child. Has nothing to do with you being greedy

Yes, until he gives up rights which in many places means someone else adopts him, he will have rights, whether or not he’s on child support. Put him back on it, tell him to man the fuck up and deal with it.

Yes he still has rights to his child regardless of child support. I suggest you reinstate child support - it’s not for you it’s for your child - and get custody/visitation squared away officially. It will help protect both of you.

Child support and rights to a child are not directly related. Yes a court will order you to pay support for a child that is yours, but that doesn’t automatically establish rights (at least in Florida) but at the same time you cannot withhold a child for more support or for lack of support paid. Child support and custody are for the benefit of the child NOT the benefit of the parents. While I understand why you may not want him involved, you would need to handle it through the courts the appropriate way so that you have proper documentation stating that he fees not have rights or has limited rights to the child. I work for a family law attorney and I’ve seen where a biological parent will take a child across state lines and without a court order you cannot get the child back. Better to have the papers before you need them to avoid a long expensive court procedure.
