To share or not to share?

Question

Is it overall beneficial, detrimental or neutral for same gender siblings to share a room? Please share your experiences! I am an only child and I feel like I would have gained so many life skills if I had shared a room with a sister.

I shared a room with my younger brother until I was eight and he was four. Then we moved to a house where we got our own rooms. He still slept on my floor for like another three years 😂 I think it was good for us during that time and it ended just as I was becoming a moody pre-teen. My husband shared a room with his brother his entire life until his parents divorced when he was like 14. He hated it. I guess my two cents is that it’s beneficial until they start getting older and wanting their own space.

My sister and I shared a room our whole lives. My brothers shared a room their whole lives. Our son has his own room right now, our twin girls share the baby room and will still share when we move them into their big girl room at age 1 even though we have space for their own rooms. 
We love our kids more than anything...but they don’t get a say in the room situation. They’ll share and they’ll be fine. If they want to pay rent then we’d consider addressing it. But until then it’s our house, and they get to live here 😂 
(Our son is 16 months, our daughters 4 months)

I shared a room with my older sister for 17 years. We had 3 bedrooms and there were 5 of us so no choice. Like others have said, as a kid it was awesome. We giggled before falling asleep most nights, we played for countless hours in there together. It definitely teaches you how to respect someone else’s space and things and how to compromise and share.

When I grew up my parents had 6 kids split in 2 tiny rooms. So 3 and 3. I'm definitely gonna make my kids share if I can. I think it's a good idea. I really don't think they all need there own rooms but maybe that's just me 😝

I shared with my sister and it was a nightmare because we were total opposites however now we get along fairly well. I would say if you have to yes but don't go out of your way to make sure they have their own room

I was the only girl so my brothers were sharing a room. They hated it after a few years. Obviously if you don’t have the space I don’t see any issues with it. But once older they need their privacy imo.

I have a much older brother so I kinda grew up as an only child as well.
If we get another baby they'll have to share rooms for a while, because it'll be a few years before we would be able to get another house 😅
I think it depends a lot on the children and also their age. I know some kids that would most likely struggle in a shared room as they need their alone time. But as with everything else - do what works for you and your family 😊
