Potty training???

I have seen many people say that if you don’t wait for the signs that your child is ready to potty train, then it will backfire and cause set backs, etc. Why and how? Please don’t just say because everyone says that here and instead give actual experience that makes you think that. What was your potty training experience? What age did you try, what age were they successful? What recommendations do you have? How did you do it?
