Best practices changed it from every year to every 3 years. The exception being if you had an abnormal pap, then every year. Physicals are still supposed to be annual.

Every year. I started EARLY at 16. I was not securely active but had abnormal periods and sometimes would get abnormal cells so id need a recheck then id be fine. But i go every year since then for everything.

I took my daughter to the doctor for birth control and the doctor said they don’t need to do a pap. She’s not yet sexually active but we agreed to be prepared for the future. I just had a pap and they said I don’t need one for another 5 years but need to Well Woman visit (a physical I guess) every year.

I go year for a checkup and she usually checks me out down there but i only get a Pap smear every three years

Usually they say to start going to a gyno routinely once you are sexually active but some people start going as early as their first period! You don’t need your first Pap smear until you’re 21 and then you get them yearly after that. 
It all depends on if you notice anything concerning down there that you wanna get checked out, or if you wanna talk about birth control. If everything is normal and you aren’t sexually active then you can probably wait until you’re 21!
